Beaches in Corfu

Paleokastritsa is a very well known area of Corfu and if you like James Bond you will be pleased to know that some of the filming for the film “For Your Eyes Only” was filmed here. It is the largest beach on the west coast of Corfu; it has spectacular surroundings being located at two bays, with stunning cliffs enclosing it. There are truly breathtaking views at Paleokastritsa. This beach has beautiful caves for you to discover and explore.

Agios Georgios (St. GeorgeΆs) Beach again there are two beaches with this name. One is in the North West of the Island and the other is South West. The beaches are similar, they are both located on bays and are good for watersports. Agios Georgios in the North is well renowned for windsurfing as has a gentle breeze that facilitates this sport. The beach is a long stretch (3km) of sandy coast line; it is quite a big beach so although it is popular it will never feel crowded.

Agios Stefanos this is a little confusing as there are 2 beaches with this name on the Island of Corfu. One is on the North West of the Island and the other is on the North East. The beach on the North West is now sometimes known as Avliotes to not be so confusing. Avliotes is a beautiful sandy beach in a small resort and is considered, by many, to be one of the best beaches on Corfu. It has shallow calm waters so is an excellent beach for children. The beach is very clean and has a Blue Flag award.

Ermones Beach this is a small beach on a bay surrounded by cliffs. It has lovely white sand and watersports facilities.

Glyfada this is a very wide sandy beach and although popular you will feel that there is plenty of room. This is a fantastic beach for children as the water is shallow. You can choose from a wide range of watersports at this beach. The water is very clear, brilliant for snorkelling and seeing all the wonderful colours of fish. There are plenty of amenities near by such as shops, hotels and restaurants.

Agios Gordis is a large sandy beach on the West side of the island. This is a stunning beach due to a rock called Ortholini which soars out of the sea. This beach is very accessible, either by car or by the frequent bus service from Corfu town. This area is beautiful and attracts many visitors just to look at the views. There are a few hotels and other amenities close to this beach.

Kavos is a very popular resort on Corfu. The beach is long (2kms), sandy and feels very spacious despite being a popular beach. Watersports are available here and the water is good for swimming as it is calm making it safe for children. As it is near the resort centre it is very near all the amenities that you could need such as bars, shops and restaurants.

Messongi this is a beach that has a reputation for being very friendly. It is a small beach with both pebbles and sand. It has shallow waters perfect for children to swim in and watersports are available here.

Moraitika there are a series of beaches here that comprise part of the East coastline of Corfu. There are both sandy and pebbly beaches here. Moraitika is a traditional Greek village with a range of tourist facilities and a friendly welcoming atmosphere.

Benitses this is a touristy town. The beaches here are all near amenities. The beaches are mainly pebbly, with small areas of sand, along this stretch of coastline. Some of the beaches are busier than others but it is still possible to find some quiet and peaceful beaches here. The beaches here are very clean and are set in pleasant surroundings with green scenery of olive groves as a backdrop. Watersports and pedaloes are available here. The water is safe for children to swim in being calm and shallow.

Gouvia has narrow sandy beaches. Extensive choices of watersports are available here. The beaches are easily accessible and are near accommodation of hotels and a camp site. The beach has lovely scenery and has a serene and welcoming atmosphere. All those who go here seem to thoroughly enjoy this beach.

Dassia Beach is a popular one, it has sand and shingles. It is near the centre of Dassia, which is great as means that all facilities such as shops and restaurants are never far from reach. There are watersports on offer here, such as paragliding and water skiing. This is a great beach for families and couples. All you could want is possible, from sunbathing all day, to having a refreshing swim, or being adventurous with watersports; you can enjoy everything here.

Ipsos and Pirgi beaches lie on the same stretch of coastline and form one long sandy beach. The water is shallow and slopes out very gently making it a good choice for children and weak swimmers. The beach is very clean and the water clear making it good for snorkelling. Pedaloes are available to hire and watersports are available too. There is a jetty from where you can go on boat trips.

Barbati this is a Blue flag beach, meaning that is very clean. It is not directly accessible from a main road but is a short walk through some trees. It is a beautiful sandy beach with clear azure water. Sunbeds and umbrellas are available for hire here and there are showers, toilets and changing rooms. There are coves nearby for you to discover.

Kassiopi is a small picturesque town that has a small stretch of coastline. It is a lovely beach perfect for couples as is tranquil and perfect for relaxing. There is a small harbour at this beach, so you may get to witness a bit of Greek culture when you see the men fishing.

Acharavi Beach is a long sandy beach. It has watersports and pedaloes. This beach is very clean, has life guards, and lovely warm water. It is a great beach for kids as the water is warm and shallow. The beach although sandy, gets pebbly when you approach the sea but once in the water you will be back to having sand under your feet.

Roda this used to be a small fishing village but is becoming a small tourist resort. It is a long sandy beach (8kms) and reaches to Acharavi. Good for swimming as has shallow water.

Sidari this is a large sandy beach that has plenty of space for everyone to sunbathe without feeling crowded. This is the biggest resort town on the North West of the Island. The sea here is perfect for children to swim in, as the water is calm and shallow. From Sidari you can take a boat trip to three small charming islands Erikoussa, Mathraki and Othoni.

This beach is another popular beach on Corfu, as it is sandy and considered one of the best sandy beaches on the Island. It is about 35 km from the island's capital. This beach is a clean beach that is good for swimming, has reasonably priced Sunbeds, and has a very pleasant atmosphere. It is near to tavernas and shops. This beach also has a sunset which may well be worth watching to create a special memory.
