    RESORTS & BEACHES IN Kefalonia

Myrtos
The best known beach on Kefalonia is Myrtos Beach. It is not only known to the local KefalonianĘs but is also well known throughout Greece. It is situated north of the Islands Capital town, Argostoli. This beach has been described by many as simply “breathtaking” and as a “little piece of heaven”. It is a beautiful beach with golden sand surrounded by vertical cliffs. Not only does it have sand, there is also an area of pebbles and shingles, so you can choose which you prefer.

Antisamos
Antisamos is another well known beach on Kefalonia. It is near the Village of Sami and is 22 km from Argostoli. This is a pebbly beach, with stunning turquoise blue waters and is surrounded by luscious green hills. The beach has a snack bar which is very handy for refreshments. There are also Sunbeds and umbrellas, at reasonable prices. This is a beach that is popular with the locals of the Island, so not only will you have a memorable day at this wonderful beach, you will also get to witness a little bit of Greek culture.

Agia Efimia
Agia Efimia has many small beaches surrounding this little village which is 9 km from Sami. They are pebbly, but are very quiet and un-crowded; you may even be able to discover one all for yourself! There are several coves for you to find and explore, which will also give you shelter from the heat of the sun. There is a scuba diving school on one of the beaches, in this area, should you be feeling adventurous.

Sami
Sami itself has a beach, although Antisamos and Agia Efimia beaches are better known. Sami is a modern town and so the beach is near all the facilities you would expect and need such as shops, restaurants and tavernas. Sami beach is a stony beach that offers amazing views across to Ithaca, and also has watersports. Some of the filming for Captain CorelliĘs Mandolin was done around here, so if you have seen the movie some of the places may look familiar!

Lassi
Lassi is a resort near to Argostoli, KefaloniaĘs Capital. This resort is situated near many lovely popular beaches. There are two very well known beaches in this area, called Makris Gialos and Playtis Gialos. These two beaches are actually linked, as they are only divided by rocks. They form a very long stretch of sandy beach, and have been awarded the Blue Flag for cleanliness. There are watersports options available, making it an excellent choice for families.

Svoronata
Svoronata is a resort in the south west of Kefalonia; it is only a couple of km from the Capital Argostoli. It is near many beaches, but three are well known. They are Ammes, Avithos, and Agios Helis. Svoronata is itself a small typically Greek village, and the beaches reflect that. They are unspoilt and quieter compared to some of the other busier beaches on the Island. They are perfect for couples and those seeking a tranquil holiday. All the beaches are sandy.

Assos
Assos beach is on the west of the Island 36 km from Argostoli, the Islands capital. The beach is in a bay, which is overlooked by two pleasant tavernas. The beach is a lovely pebbly beach that offers great views of the picturesque town of Assos. This town is definitely worth seeing as is dominated by ruins of a 16th Century Venetian Castle. The whole area is surrounded by luscious green scenery.

Lixouri
Lixouri is the second largest village on the island of Kefalonia and is near several beaches. It is located on the south of the Island, and is connected by ferry to Argostoli the Capital of Kefalonia. It is on a peninsula which faces opposite to Lassi and Argostoli. The nearest beach to Lixouri is Lepada and this is a beautiful, unspoilt beach of red sand. It is an excellent beach for swimming as has very safe water.

Lourdas
Lourdas beach is a popular choice if you are looking for a quiet, un-crowded beach. Having no watersports makes it especially serene and peaceful. It is a spacious beach and is 1 km long, so you will not feel that you have people sitting on top of you. It is pebbly, but the pebbles are fairly smooth here so they should not hurt your feet. The beach is great for swimming as the water is clear and very calm. The beach has stunning views of Mount Ainos.

Skala
Skala beach is a bit further south from Lourdes and Trapezaki beach. It has soft, white sand and beautiful coloured water, and is one of the most stunning beaches of the Island. It is a clean beach that has been awarded the Blue Flag award. This is a very accessible beach from the village of Skala, even for those in wheelchairs or with mobility problems. This beach has watersports, life guards, Sunbeds and umbrellas, toilets, and some shops and cafes.

Spartia
Spartia beach is near the town of Spartia. It is a sandy beach surrounded by limestone cliffs. It has a harbour and jetty. Spartia has a sailing centre, so you maybe able to see some yachts harboured just off the coast. This beach is undeveloped and so does not have many facilities; there are only a couple of tavernas. As such it probably is not a beach to plan to spend a whole day on, but would be well worth a short visit.
