Beaches in Kythira

Kaladi Beach this is a beach that is a must see! It is stunningly beautiful, comprised of sand, pebbles and azure waters, also with the unique scenery of caves and rocks coming out of the sea. It is located on the east of Kythira, near the village of Paleopoli. This is an excellent beach to visit, to explore the caves, enjoy the calm sea, and also to sunbathe.

Agia Pelagia Beach is on the north east side of the Island, 26 km from Kythira Town. This village is one of the two main ports on the island. The beach here is lovely, sandy and pebbly and the beach is on both sides of the quay.

Agios Nikolaos Bay is in the north east of the Island, near the village of Avlemonas. It is an enchanting bay. The beach is small, beautiful and sandy with some areas of small rocks.

Avlemonas Beach is located in the east of the Island, 26km from the Capital. It is a quaint picturesque port and fishing village. The beach is a pebbly and sandy beach that has warm, calm waters so it is ideal for swimming. Here Archaeologists worked for many years searching for the Temple of Aphrodite.

Firi Ammos beach is considered to be one of the best on Kythira. It is a long and spacious beach comprising an unusual coastline of red pebbles and red sand. You will have to go to see the unique colour for yourself. The sea is crystal clear, and clean, brilliant for swimming. This beach has been awarded a prize for beauty and cleanliness.

Kakia Lagada Beach is according to legends the beach where Venus sat and gazed at the sea. This is a lovely beach to the north of the Island.

Kapsali is comprised of 2 bays, both sandy-pebbly beaches. The first one is slightly pebblier and the second one has plenty of cafes and restaurants for your convenience. These beaches are popular so can get busy in the peak of summer, but they should never feel very crowded. Both beaches offer sheltered swimming, in beautiful turquoise coloured water. These are good places for children swim. You will be able to see out to shore the Island of Avgo, which in English would be translated as Egg Island.

Platia Ammos Beach is in the north west of Kythira. It is a long sandy beach, near to the green scenic village of Karavas. This beach is perfect for swimming, and has an excellent view of the Peloponnese. There is a fish taverna at this beach.
